What the odds look like at real chest counts

The Fortnite token odds per chest are fixed. What changes is the cumulative chance of seeing at least one token across many chests: 1 - (1 - p)^N.

Even a 50% chance needs roughly 95,000 chests at the official rate. No strategy guarantees the token โ€” only a longer grind or a 1.5x window improves the cumulative number.

Party sharing changes the math more than anything else

When one player opens a chest containing Pirate Shop Access, every player in the party receives it. That means a squad of four opening 20 chests per match is rolling 20 effective chests per match, not 5 โ€” a 4x multiplier on the same play time.

This is widely reported by outlets and player testing. Epic's reward text and drop-rate post do not state the squad rule explicitly, so treat it as strong testimony rather than a written guarantee.

Why the 1 in 700,000 number was wrong

Before November 7, a viral community estimate put the rate near 1 in 700,000. It spread through clips and forum posts and was never an official figure. Epic's published 1 in 137,500 is about five times better.

An earlier datamining guess of 1 in 2,000 went the other way โ€” about 69 times too generous. Both numbers are useful only as a reminder that pre-announcement estimates should be treated as guesses.

FAQ

What are the Fortnite odds of getting a pirate shop token?

1 in 137,500 per chest in a normal match, or about 1 in 91,667 during Treasure Hours. Epic published these odds on November 7, 2026; they do not change with account level or play time.

What are the official Pirate Shop Token odds?

1 in 137,500 per chest in a normal match, published by Epic via Fortnite Status on November 7, 2026. During Treasure Hours the rate is 1.5x, about 1 in 91,667.

Does opening more chests without a token improve my next chest?

No. Each chest is an independent roll, so a dry streak does not change the next chest's probability. The chance across N chests is cumulative, but the per-chest rate stays 1 in 137,500.

Can you get the token in bot lobbies?

No. The token drops only in Battle Royale and Zero Build chests in real matches, not in bot lobbies.

Can you get a second Pirate Shop Token?

No. Apart from Gizmos, the same treasure cannot be obtained twice, so once your account has the token it is removed from your drop pool.
